05:25
we were told by someone who was at the Koningsplein scene about 1 hour earlier (04.23 Hr),that a police-officer (Honden-Brigade attachment) pulled and aimed his gun at the squatters, probably after one of their cars had been attacked on the before mentioned square, and told them to disperse.
06:40
The circus has all checked in and started rolling!
6:55

De ontruimingsgolf begonnen bij Kalverstraat 150, een aantal verfbommetjes worden gegooid.

The eviction wave has started at Kalverstraat 150. Some paint bombs are being thrown.

At Kalverstraat no resistance is being offered. Also the paintbombs mentioned earlier weren't thrown. They are just laying in the window ledge of the squat

News about the action at the stock-exchange this morning:
A group of 60 people transformed the entrance of the stock-exchange in Amsterdam into a slippery stage this morning . The statement: The way policies are developing now, the city council will soon fall flat on its face.
4 stock-brockers indeed showed the city council what this looks like...
08:20
At this moment Martelaarsgracht is being evicted in an action that has strted at 8:20. The riot police and a water canon came in to the street. 2 persons on the roof of house number 6 started throwing paint bombs at the riot police and the water canon. The riot police and the press were hit several times by paint bombs, making the scene a very collerfull one. Some undercover police man went into a house around the corner to check out the roof and the backside of the house.
08:40
Together with the samba band the group blockading the stock-exchange moved to the Martelaarsgracht in order to show solidarity to the people inside.
08:45
The police drove a large krane onto the Prins Hendrikkade and strated to put special equipt BraTra (Break-in and teargas Riotcops) onto the roof of nr. 6. They also entered nr. 4-3 through a window. Some squaters were still putting up resistance by throwing small garbage filled baggs and paint at the water canon and other riot cops. It took them another hour to chainsaw there way down.
They are almost finished with clearing the house
12:10
At this moment Nieuwe Nieuwstraat 21 is being evicted.
13:23
The campenstraat 22 squat is evicted. it was left empty.
the police announced this morning campenstraat nr. 20hs to be evicted too, but it seems as if the lawyer has started a courtcase for this house on time. As of now, there will be no eviction.
13:29
The evictions have ended. The riot police is pulling back to their base. No further news on eviction of Amsteldijk 12 and/or any other places.
5 people have been arrested at the Martelaarsgracht, 3 more at the Nieuwnieuwstraat.

some pictures from the Martelaarsgracht and from the Nieuwnieuwstraat.

Resistance against eviction!

Tuesday, 19 march, early in the morning at least 6 squatted houses will be evicted, as result around 25 people will became homeless. Nominated for eviction houses are: Amsteldijk 12, Nieuwe Nieuwstraat 21, Kalverstraat 150, Vijzelstraat 5, Martelaarsgracht 6 & 4 III and Camperstraat 22, because of failing city council policy and worthless plans of owners of above mentioned houses, we are not going to leave voluntarily. We planned different actions & will resist.
The housing shortage in Amsterdam is still a fact; still city council is giving speculators free reign.
On the Martelaarsgracht 4 to 12, five houses have to make a way for one big luxury hotel. Two of those houses are half illegally demolished monuments, who are left too rotten for past 20 years. The owner of the complex is asocial mobster who owns a lot of hotels/restaurants/cafe, named G.Brals - profiting from lack of city council policy and pushing his own way, while in that part of the city is abundance of hotels.
Vijzelstraat 5, now in hands of Van Zijl, is since long time object of speculation. In the last five years the house was three time squatted and two times evicted. Finally there are plans for that building ? unfortunately they want to make office space there, while there is more then enough of empty offices in the city.
Camperstraat 22 is a good example of eviction, which will result in emptiness. Local city council wants to demolish in the future, but the demolishing plans and necessary permits are not ready and renters who are still there can stay, it can takes years before they really start with their project.
In the Amsteldijk, Nieuwe Nieuwstraat, Kalverstraat, the plans are also vague and probably nothing will happen after eviction.
Again many living spaces will be liquidated on already in short supply accommodation market in city center. Through disappearance of housing and its residents, city center gets even more boring, looses the dynamics and is only interesting for business people and tourists.

Amsterdam is on the slippery slope!

XXX

For the past year - since the eviction of Kalenderpanden, basically - the various eviction-waves carried out by the Police against squats in Amsterdam were met by relatively little resistance, due to various reasons. (although we do not mean to belittle the efforts of those who did offer resistance, of course.)
For the following eviction-wave, however, we are attempting to organize the anti-authoritarian communities so as to send a clear message of defiance against policies of greed imposed by politicians & legislators and enforced by riot-police.
Although the date of the next eviction wave is not clear yet (as of the 1st of January, 2002), and might be known to us only at the last minute, we are hereby spreading the word that whatever date it may be on, we will mobilize and respond.
Houses currently under threat of eviction are Vijzelstraat 5, Martelaarsgracht 4III & 6, Amsteldijk 12 - and more.
If you live in Amsterdam and/or would like to take part in our plans of direct action against the eviction of squats, we mainly ask that when Day X comes, you be out there on the streets with us, saying ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

This website will be updated regarding the exact date of the next eviction-wave. Please keep all of this in mind, and if you would like to receive more information in the upcoming weeks, we encourage you to fill in your e-mail address in the form below (don't worry - we won't send you any junk-mail!)
